S1E1 – IN THE COMPANY OF CREATIVES PODCAST

Today, I’m speaking to Musa Okwonga - a writer, musician and broadcaster based in Berlin.

Musa's portfolio is impressively wide-ranging. He's published poetry; journalism; books on football including A Cultured Left Foot and Striking Out - a collaboration with Ian Wright, which won the 2022 Sunday Times Children's Sports Book of the Year; he also co-hosts the football podcast, Stadio. He's recently published a memoir of his school days at Eton College, One of Them, and a semi-autobiographical novel, In The End, It Was All About Love.

Musa’s work has appeared in The Guardian, The New York Times, The Economist and Africa Is A Country.

He shared his thoughts on:

  • How to create powerful work

  • How he found the motivation to write deeply personal stories

  • How he shifts between genres to best capture his subject matter

  • How to overcome writer’s block

  • The importance of having a solid support system

Links he mentioned:

It was an absolute honour I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did.
